In northeastern Hanover, on Thursday evening, June 3, an operation to neutralize two World War II bombs was successfully completed. For security reasons, about 15,000 residents of the surrounding houses were evacuated during the necessary measures. DW reported this.
The evacuees were placed with relatives and friends, for which the restrictions on the number of social contacts during the Covid-19 pandemic were temporarily lifted. In addition, temporary accommodation in school gyms was prepared.
The first air bomb weighing about a ton was discovered on June 2. The next day, experts found a second projectile of similar mass during a study of the area.
Earlier, in the Italian city of Brindisi, the authorities evacuated 54 thousand people because of the revealed air bomb of the Second World War. The unexploded bomb was discovered by builders during the expansion of the Andromeda cinema.
About a thousand law enforcement officers and 250 volunteers were involved in the successful operation of this scale. The bomb was defused by 15 military sappers.
