On February, 11 National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting (NCTRB) decided to ban 15 Russian TV channels rebroadcasting in Ukraine. This was reported by the National Council press service.

“On February 11 National Council excluded 15 Russian TV channels from the list of foreign programs, which content meets the requirements of the European Convention on Transfrontier Television and the legislation of Ukraine. This decision was based on the monitoring results of the channels which are rebroadcasting through cable networks in Ukraine and are not signatories to the European Convention. This resolution will come into force one month after its publication, "- said in a statement.

NCTRB explained that during the monitoring from 16 to 28 January 2016 some TV channels domestic legislation violations were found.

Earlier The National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine accepted three erotic channels. They all comply with European Convention of Transfrontier Television so as Ukrainian legislation.

Chairman of the National Council of TV and Radio Broadcasting Yuriy Artemenko said that the main reasons for the TV channels ban are Ukrainian legislation violations in terms of national security and the advertising legislation. The reason is showing persons entered the list of individuals which pose a threat to national security, and also display advertising which broadcasting with foreign radio and TV is banned in Ukraine. These channels are not within the jurisdiction of the EU countries or countries that have ratified the European Convention on Transfrontier television.

The NCTRB supervisory board decided to give providers a month to carry out this decision, therefore, it will enter into force one month from the date of its publication. The ministry warned about continuing monitoring the foreign channels in case these channels having jurisdiction of countries which have not signed the European Convention on Transfrontier Television.
