15 centimeters of snow fell over the night on Pip Ivan mountain in the Carpathians. Ukraine's State Emergency Service recommended that the tourists stay indoors and avoid trips on foot.
"It is cloudy now at Pip Ivan Chornohorsky mountain, and the visibility range is limited down to 30 meters. 15 centimeters of snow fell during the night; the temperature is eight degrees below zero", the message said.
Since the beginning of the year, search and rescue teams picked people off the chairlifts twice, as they stopped in the mountains - in Slavske (74 people) and at Zakhar Berkut mountain (14 people).
Earlier, we reported that a large shard of ice fell off Woozle Hill glacier on Galindez Island, where Akademik Vernadsky polar research station is located. The press office of the National Antarctic Research Centre reported that on January 4.
"The height of the shard makes some 20 meters, which almost equals that of the seven-story house. The width is five meters", reads the message.
According to the polar station staff, it's the first time that such a large piece of ice fell off in this area. However, the crack in the ice in this area has been observed for a long time.
