At least 140 people were killed as a result of Taliban attack on the army headquarters in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan. A lot of military officers got wounded.

Taliban attackers disguised in military uniforms of the government army before the onslaught. They drove military vehicles onto the territory of the base and opened fire. The attackers used rocket-propelled grenades and rifles. Around 10 Taliban fighters participated in the act. However, they caught military personnel off guard. Soldiers were eating dinner and leaving a mosque after Friday prayers the moment attack occurred, the message said.
Reuters sources did not exclude that the death toll was likely to be even higher. Many servicemen were wounded.
Taliban speaker announced that the attack on the base was retribution for the recent killing of several senior Taliban leaders in northern Afghanistan.
