The National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting made an unprecedented decision - to deprive 112 Ukraine TV Channel of their digital broadcasting licenses.
We, the channel’s team, see this as strong censorship, which casts great doubt on the freedom of speech in Ukraine. This is not the first time that the 112 Ukraine TV Channel has been inconvenient for the authorities, we are fighting for our right to stay on air from the very beginning of the channel’s existence, each government tried to stop our work.
The actions of the National Council are illegal. Authority of three members of the National Council expired in July 2019. Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada de facto recognized this fact. Taking any decisions, they abuse their power, and the National Council itself is not legitimate. We take up the decision of the National Council as an illegal one of an illegitimate government authority.
Nevertheless, the 112 Ukraine TV Channel, 112.ua and 112.international sites will continue their work. We will not allow the decision of the National Council to deprive Ukrainians of objective information.
“The authorities were afraid of objective information. But we are not afraid to bring truth to our viewers. And we will go on doing it today, tomorrow and always. We stay on the air, we stay on the Internet. We value the trust of our viewers and readers. We continue to work,” said Yehor Benkendorf, Director General of the TV channel.
“Today events have once again shown that the authorities are afraid of objective and honest information. Unfortunately, the newly elected power holders are not yet ready to build a democratic society in Ukraine. We do not agree with the decision of the illegitimate National Council and we will inform international structures about this fact of lawlessness," said Artem Marchevsky, 112 Ukraine General Producer.
