112 Ukraine TV Channel appealed to the OSCE Representative for freedom in the mass media in Ukraine to put the issue of 112 Ukraine on the special social control. Vasyl Smetana, the representative of 112 Ukraine TV Channel claimed this on the sidelines of the conference “Strengthening of freedom and pluralism of the mass media in Ukraine”.
“We succeeded to raise an issue of 112 Ukraine TV Channel connected to the fact that we regularly sent the materials, also to the OSCE and other international human rights organization that the National Council’s acts are non-transparent, it makes the politicized decision and guided by the political motives. As for today, we could provide the most significant evidence – we showed the statement of Olga Gerasimyuk who claimed to fight four years for the right to act in transparent ways to defend the freedom of speech and not infringe it. She was forced to step down as she did not succeed,” he said.
“In such way, we succeeded to raise this issue and asked the Office of the OSCE Representative for freedom in the mass media in Ukraine, to put the issue of 112 Ukraine TV Channel under the special social control as we systematically fight four years for the possibility to broadcasted freely but unfortunately, we cannot make great progress. I hope we were heard,” the 112 Ukraine representative added.
Earlier 112 Ukraine TV Channel protested against the activity of Yuriy Artemenko, the head of the National TV and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine. The channel's management insists that the official has been conducting the Council's actions in the way that prevents 112 Ukraine TV from broadcasting; previously, he stated that the Council would not issue the license for this medium.
We recall that the National Council refused 112 Ukraine TV Channel in the relocation of the broadcasting concept to the information one for 34 times. On the basis of the formal violation, it imposed the fines and preventions against 112 Ukraine TV Channel. The Ukrainian and international experts treat such actions of the regulator as the pressure on the TV channel and freedom of speech in the country.
