A military helicopter crashed in Tatvan, eastern Turkey. 11 servicemen of the Turkish army deceased in the accident, Anadolu reported citing the Turkish Ministry of national defence.

"The contact with Cougar helicopter that belonged to our Ground Forces command and departed from Bingel to Tatvan today at 13.55 was lost at 14.25", reads the Ministry's statement released on March 4.

Initially, there were nine dead and four injured people that were taken to the hospital. However, later the number of fatalities reached 11. The two remaining servicemen are receiving the treatment. The list of the deceased fighters included Commander of the 8th Corps of Ground Forces, Lt. Gen. Osman Erbas and HQ Colonel Şentürk Aydınyer. The others were sergeants.

In November 2020, the helicopter with Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) troops led by the U.S. crashed near Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt, as Reuters reported. As a result of the catastrophe, seven members of the peacekeeping forced died, including five Americans, a citizen of France and a citizen of the Czech Republic.
