Over the previous year, 10,733 people deceased because of the impact of natural disasters. This is the conclusion of the recent survey conducted by CRED, the Center of Researches for Epidemiology and Natural Disasters. Anadolu reported this, referring to the study that is based on monitoring of 281 cases that were observed in 2018.
Mami Mitsutori, the CRED member, insisted that in 2018, the natural disasters were spotted in all regions of the world. 'If we want to cut the damage from these, we have to know how to manage the risks of natural disasters', he said.
The largest number of casualties was observed in Indonesia, India and Guatemala. The most serious economic damage is reported in India, Phillippines and China.
3.4 million people suffered consequences of earthquakes, tsunami and volcanic activity in 2018. 4,417 people deceased in Indonesia. 425 fatalities were reported in Guatemala. In Papua-New Guinea, 145 people passed away.
