The Syrian army has taken control of a strategic hill that overlooks the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Reuters reported this on Monday on July 16.
Representatives of the Syrian army claimed that they took the al-Haara hill under their control on the second day of the large-scale offenses. The objective of the offense is to capture parts of southwest Syria that are in rebel hands and are close to the border with Israel.
Syrian rebels are still holding the narrow territory that divides Deraa and Al Qunaitra provinces despite the capture by government forces with the support of Russia most of the Deraa province.
Reportedly, the rebels claimed that they are back to negotiations with the Russian Federation after Russia and Syrian aviation conducted 600 airstrikes in 15 hours. The rebels promised to lay down their arms and demanding in return a settlement of their status in the future peace treaty. In response, Russia demanded complete and unconditional surrender.
