Russian Black Sea Navy Fleet was turned into the heightened alert due to the start of the FIFA World Cup, as Reuters reports.

As the news agency reports referring to its sources, the decision was made because of the enhancement of the security during the FIFA World Cup. In particular, Russian authorities stated that Ukraine is escalating troops in the region and might be preparing provocations.

“Because of the World Cup and expectations of possible provocations by Ukraine around the Crimean coast, commanders took the decision to increase the fleet’s level of military preparedness,” the news agency reports.

Russian Defence Ministry did not confirm the information about Russian Navy military alert in the Black Sea.

The FIFA World Cup started yesterday, on June 14 with the game between Russia’s and Saudi Arabia teams.
