Italian prosecutors defined that deal on funding of Italian party Liga Nord by Russia was not concluded, as state prosecutors claimed during the investigation on the case opened over the article published in American news agency Buzzfeed and Italian L'Espresso. The article read that Russia was allegedly allocating money for Italian Liga Nord, as Ansa reported.
“Salvini has so far failed to report to parliament about the case, saying that he does not need to talk about "fantasies" and that he has not taken a rouble from the Russians. Prosecutors think that the operation that was allegedly talked about never came to fruition, sources said,” the news agency reads.
Opposition democratic party claimed intentions to offer the parliament to express non-confidence to Internal Minister of Italy Matteo Salvini due to this case.
“The investigators have obtained a recording of the talks at the Metropol hotel from the L'Espresso who wrote the exposé. The conversation may have been recorded on one of the mobile phone of one of the Italians present, the sources said,” the message reads.
Prosecutors were investigating suspicion that a person who has close ties with Salvini was allegedly carrying out negotiations with Kremlin’s representatives. They were talking about funding of Liga Nord.
