The Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation opened criminal proceeding into what it put as ‘artillery attack on civilian objects in Donetsk’. The respective message may be found on the agency’s website.

‘On December 5, 2017, servicemen of the Armed Forces and the National Guard of Ukraine obeyed the illegal order of their superiors from Ukraine’s defense ministry; they performed an adjusted artillery strike, using heavy weaponry and targeting civilian infrastructure in Petrovsky district of Donetsk. A civilian was wounded in the attack’, the Committee reported, saying that the investigation is underway.

The Russian governmental agency has repeatedly opened cases against the Ukrainian military for ‘attacking residential quarters and other objects of civilian infrastructure’ and other trumped-up charges such as ‘crimes against Russian-speaking inhabitants of Donbas’.

Ukraine’s military and civilian authorities deny all charges; Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces Viktor Muzhenko described these cases as ‘brainwashing’.
