Russia's Black Sea Fleet ships go for combat training in Crimea

About 40 ships of Russia's Black Sea Fleet are involved in the drills, where the crews improve their skills in combat training. The vessels are located not far from the naval base near Sevastopol.

The press service of Russia's Southern Military District reported that, pointing out that respective tasks include preparations for long-distance raids, use of weaponry and gadgets.

'Crews will work on fighting for the ship's endurance as it stays near the pier; they also practice anti-sabotage activity and anti-aircraft defense,' the message said.

Since Crimea's annexation in 2014, Russia has been regularly holding military drills on the peninsula. The Ukrainian government considers such actions illegal, pointing out that Crimea and its naval bases belong to Ukraine.
