Russian parliamentary commission on the investigation of foreign interference requested to the prosecutor's office due to the activity of the number of foreign mass media in the country as Interfax reported citing Head of the Commission Vasiliy Piskaryov.
“The first summary data about exposed cases of the systematic replication of disinformation were filed by me to the Prosecutor General’s Office for the legal assessment and making of the decision in accordance with the legislation of Russia,” Piskaryov said.
The foreign mass media, which were noted as having propagandist materials, are as follows: Voice of America, Deutsche Welle, Current Time TV, Radio Liberty and their regional branches – Sever.Realii, Sibir.Realii, Krym.Realii, Idel.Realii and Radio Azatlyk.
The MPs see the ‘systematic attempts to provide the external influence on the inner affairs of Russia and influence the expression of will of the citizens of the country’ in the work of these media.
In 2017, the Federation Council of Russia approved the law on the recognition of the foreign mass media as the foreign agents. 154 MPs supported the law and it was up for the signature by Vladimir Putin, the Russian President.
