The Russian military is monitoring the Donald Cook U.S. Navy destroyer. It is reported by TASS with reference to the National Center for Defense Management of the Russian Federation Defense Ministry.
"The forces of the Black Sea Fleet began tracking the USS Donald Cook American missile destroyer immediately after its entry into the Black Sea," the report said.
It clarifies that "the Pytlivy patrol ship of the Black Sea Fleet began to directly monitor the actions of the American warship." It will also be followed by electronic and technical means of the fleet.
Earlier it became known that the US destroyer USS Donald Cook (DDG-75) was heading for the Black Sea.
"The U.S. Navy continues to support our allies and partners in the common regional interests to ensure stability at sea. Our visit to the Black Sea will demonstrate the cooperation of the Navy in achieving common security goals in the region," said destroyer commander Matthew J. Powell.
The fact that the ship was en route to the Black Sea was also announced by Ukrainian Ambassador to the US Valeriy Chaly on his Facebook page.
