Russian FSB tries to recruit Ukrainian in Chernihiv region

The counterintelligence of Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) exposed an attempt to recruit a Ukrainian citizen by the security services of the Russian Federation. It happened in Chernihiv region, northern Ukraine. The press office of the Security Service of Ukraine reported that. 

Representatives of the SSU denoted that a citizen of frontier settlements in Chernihiv region who was visiting his relatives in Russia was spotted by Russian FSB.

"Representatives of the intelligence service of the aggressor country involved the man in an undercover cooperation with threats and blackmail. They made man sign a commitment letter about cooperation with the FSB of the Russian Federation. He has got a nickname and was told the information-gathering tasks about security regime and personal military staff on the territory of the region. According to the instruction, he had to provide the information during the next visit to Russia," says the message. 

After coming home the man turned to the Security Service of Ukraine where he testified about the recruitment. 

Taking into consideration that the man did not implement the tasks of the foreign intelligence service and informed the law enforcers voluntarily about FSB's attempt to involve him in the collaboration, the court absolved him from the criminal responsibility according to article No.111 (High Treason) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
