Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Lavrov accused the NATO of "supporting neo-Nazis" in Ukraine. He said so during the negotiations with the Alliance's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, writes The Washington Post.

According to the outlet, Lavrov made these statements during the closed session on the UN General Assembly's field in New York. A source said that Lavrov interrupred Stoltenberg and blamed NATO with "supporting the neo-Nazis in Ukraine and leaving Afghanistan".

Besides, the top Russian diplomat called Russia-NATO council "a nonsense" and complained about the Alliance members "uniting against Russia quite often".

In turn, Stoltenberg expressed his concerns about Russia's aggressive actons in Ukraine, support of the Belarusian government and "hybrid actions against NATO allies, including intererence in elections".

On June 7, Secretary General of the NATO Jens Stoltenberg came up with the initiative to gaither the session of NATO-Russia council. The official is confident that multiple exchange of information about military maneuvers could become a topic for discussion - "to avoid misunderstandings and possible escalation".

Later, the NATO Secretary General added that Russia-NATO relations have worsened lately.
