Artist Petr Pavlensky left Russia because of the rape case opened against him. Together with his common-law wife Oksana Shalygina and two daughters he will apply for political asylum in France, according to the "TV Rain" channel.
According to Pavlensky, Teatr.doc actress Anastasia Slonina wrote a complaint about him and Shalygina. The maximum punishment for the 132nd article of the Russian Criminal Code is ten years in prison.
The artist himself denies any guilt and calls this case "denunciation". Pavlensky informed that on December 14 after he arrived in Moscow from Warsaw, he was taken in for questioning together with Shalygina.
"We were met on December 14 at “Sheremetyevo" and we saw the seriousness of their intentions. And after spending seven hours in the Investigative Committee, after two interviews, one with me, the other one with Oksana (because the statement was against both of us), we were suddenly allowed to leave. One of the leaders call us while we were waiting for the convoy, and said: "You know, the main thing in my case is objectivity, we can’t hurry, we should gather all the evidence. So today you can go, but of course you are to arrive on the first call,” Pavlensky said.
After the questioning, Pavlensky and his wife Shalygina together with their two children went by car to Ukraine via Belarus, took a flight to France from there.
Pavlensky’s lawyer Olga Dinze said that pre-investigation check is now under way. The decision on whether criminal proceedings should be initiated will be taken according to the results of examination. Defense is not yet acquainted with the materials. Pre-investigation of the case is led by Department of Investigation for the Southern Administrative District of Moscow. TV "Rain" has sent a request to the department.
