Novoaidar district court of Luhansk region sentenced Russian army’s soldier Viktor Ageev to ten years-long imprisonment. His lawyer Viktor Chevguz reported that on Facebook.
According to him, the prosecutor’s office found out that Ageev joined the so-called ‘Luhansk People’s Republic’ as a contract soldier. The Russian army serviceman also faced charges with illegal storage of weapons and ammunition.
The prosecutors requested maximum sentence under such charges, which is 12 years with confiscation of property.
The lawyer said he would appeal against the verdict, considering it ‘too strict.’
The investigation established that Viktor Ageev who is the soldier of the Russian Armed Forces joined the terrorist formation since March 2017 and was a machine gunner of the nonintegrated intelligence troop. Two accomplices of Ageev, citizens of Alchevsk and Severodonetsk were a part of the bandit group of Dremov, so-called ‘Cossacks regiment named after Platov’ since 2014.
They aimed to reach the controlled by Ukraine territory of Novoaidarsk region as the part of the sabotage party in May 2017. They were spotted by the militaries of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Two militants were killed during the detention.
The actions of the terrorists were classified under part 1, article 258-3 (creation of the terrorist group or terrorist organization) and p.1, article 263(illegal use of the arms, armament and explosives) of the Criminal code of Ukraine. The articles provide the sanctions in the terms of 8-15 years of the imprisonment.
Ageev was detained in Donbas and confirmed that he is the military of the Russian Armed Forces. At the moment Ageev is detained at the Starobelsk detention center. His mother came to Ukraine and was allowed a meeting with her son.
