Deputy Head of the government Mykhaylo Seleznev explained that this was decided in order to "create competition" for air carriers.
“This will be a serious competition for air carriers because many people will not miss the opportunity to get to the Crimea by train,” Seleznev stated. According to the report, the tourists will opt for rail transport in order to enjoy the view of the Kerch Strait.
Russia intends to open the railway on the Kerch Bridge in August-September 2019. The railroad has not been finished yet on the bridge.
As it was reported earlier, President of Russia Vladimir Putin has opened a vehicle part of the bridge over the Kerch Strait that unites annexed Crimea and Krasnodar Krai. Putin at the wheel of Kamaz headed the convoy of the vehicles and cargo equipment that made the first trip over the bridge. The automobile traffic over the bridge was opened prematurely at 5:30 am, on May 16 (Moscow time).
