Two frigates of Project 11356, built for the Black Sea Fleet, will be sold to India. This was told by the Deputy Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, Vladimir Drozhzhov, RIA Novosti reports.
Agreement on the transfer of ships was signed in October last year after talks of Russian President Vladimir Putin with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It involves the construction of two frigates in Russia and two at Indian shipyards.
It was planned to build six ships for the Black Sea Fleet until 2020. Two ships were taken into service, one – passed to the state tests.
Construction of the second triple frigates stopped due to lack of power plants that were supplied by Ukraine.
Indian Defense Minister Maonhar Parrikar said that Delhi will acquire and install their own engines for frigates bought from Russia.
