The Kremlin will expel 150 diplomats from the Western countries - in response to the U.S. sending off Russian diplomats. Sergei Lavrov, the head of the Russian foreign ministry said that as quoted by RIA Novosti news agency.

According to the official, the American ambassador in Russia will be notified of the decision made by the Russian side. Besides, the Russian ministry plans to shut down the U.S. consulate in Saint Petersburg.

'The action follows an unprecedented show of support by European and Nato allies of Britain, which has blamed the Kremlin for the nerve agent attack on former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia. More than 20 nations expelled more than 150 Russian diplomats whom they said were undeclared spies. Russia will be expelling the same number of diplomats in return,' Lavrov claimed as quoted by the Financial Times

He added that the 'tit-for-tat measures' will be taken against other countries, which sent off the Russian diplomats.

On March 26, the U.S. government decided to send off 60 Russian diplomats - due to the high-profile case of Sergei Skripal, who was poisoned in Salisbury, England, along with his daughter Yulia Skripal. Another 28 western countries followed with the similar decisions.
