Russia intends to enhance its army at the Western military district in response to NATO activity as RBK reported citing Russia’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

“The actions of our western colleagues ruin the safety system in the world and force us to assume measures of adequate interaction. We constantly improve the field strength. Until the end of the year, in the Western military district, about 20 units and military bases will be formed,” Shoigu stated.

Moreover, the enhancing of the forces in this area will be accompanied by the supplies to the army of the modern armament and hardware. Totally, this year, the units of the Western military district will get about 2,000 items of the new armament.

According to Shoigu, such measures are tied with the fact that NATO countries headed by the U.S. built up the stress of flights of strategic aviation by 14 times during the past seven years. Moreover, the number of military drills of the alliance has increased 1.5 times during the past years. NATO vessels with guided weapons regularly enter the Baltic Sea.

Earlier, Deputy Director of the FSB of Russia, Head of the Border Guard Service Vladimir Kulishov stated that Russia enhances the ground border with Ukraine. The FSB stated about unfriendly actions from the side of Kyiv.

On April 22, it was reported that Russia is withdrawing troops from the borders of Ukraine to places of permanent stationing. According to Pentagon, Russia has withdrawn part of troops; however, the risk remains.
