Russia currently defends the interests of the Russian-speaking population in the occupied part of Donbas and it will continue to do it as TASS reported citing Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Ryabkov.
“We just defend our interests, the interests of our citizens, Russian-speaking population,” Ryabkov said, commenting on the statement of Washington that Russia will pay a price if it acts aggressively in the east of Ukraine.
Ryabkov underlined that Russia will continue to defend these people. According to him, any threat only enhances the assurance of Russia that it follows the right way.
In October 2020, Melinda Simmons, Ambassador of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland to Ukraine, warned that the price Russia would have to pay for starting the armed conflict in Ukraine would be very high.
As we reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia builds up its forces near the border of Ukraine to prove the West its power.
