Russia runs check of Eastern Military District's combat readiness

The Russian Federation launched a sudden check of combat readiness of the Eastern Military District. TASS reported that with the reference to Russia's Defense Ministry.

The Russian authority claims that the check is due to the preparations for the headquarters exercise called Vostok 2022. The emphasis is to be made on the opportunities of transport infastructure used for movement of the troops.

During the checks, forces of Eastern Military District will conduct shooting exercises on distant ranges.

Chief of the Pentagon Lloyd Austin and Ukraine's Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov discussed the ongoing amassment of the Russian military next to the borders of Ukraine. Press office of the U.S. Department of Defense reported that on January 14.

"Secretary Austin reaffirmed unwavering U.S. support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, including ongoing efforts to build the capacity of Ukraine’s forces through the provision of defensive assistance. The leaders expressed support for diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and committed to continuing their close coordination", reads the message.
