“Russia's Navy practised firing at targets in the Black Sea off the coast of annexed Crimea using its Bastion coastal missile defence system”. Defence Ministry of Russia reported this at the same time as joint Ukraine-U.S. military exercises Rapid Trident-2021 are underway, according to Reuters.

Rapid Trident-2021, involving U.S. and other NATO troops, began on September 20, and will last untill October 1. The exercises follow Russia’s and Belarus’ huge war games in September.

The annexation of Crimean Peninsula in 2014 as well as the seven-year conflict in Donbas, have severely worsened the relations between Ukraine and Russia.

“Russia's Black Sea Fleet practised detecting and destroying sea targets with its Bastion system, an advanced mobile anti-ship and surface-to-surface defence system”, the statement reads.

K-300P Bastion-P can hit 350 km distance sea targets and land 450 km distance air targets, Russian Minister of Defence Sergei Shoigu stated.

As it was reported earlier, Ukrainian units will pass tests for compliance with NATO standards as part of the Rapid Trident-2021 military exercises.
