Russia shows it is not ready to discuss the release of Oleg Sentsov, Roman Sushchenko, and other political prisoners, as President Poroshenko said at the press conference in Kyiv on December 16, broadcasted by 112 Ukraine.
“I can note that for today, the Russian side shows that it is not ready to discuss it. Despite the fact that the Ukrainian side raises this issue at the agenda almost every day, Russia demonstrates that it is not ready for the talks,” the President stated.
The Head of the State noted that anti-Russian sanctions are a motivation “to release the prisoners or at least start negotiations.”
“When we had an opportunity to talk with Putin, we received signals that after the trial of Sentsov and Sushchenko we might have an exchange and they even named those who Russia was ready to exchange for Sentsov and Sushchenko. I supported this. For today, the ball is on Russia’s field. I think the whole world sees that Russian Federation and its President are responsible. He keeps political prisoners in Russia and occupied Donbas and Crimea illegally,” Poroshenko concluded.
