The Russian Federation can increase the volume of gas supplies to Europe across Nord Stream 2. President Vladimir Putin said so during his speech at the annual Valdai forum.

Putin admitted that the German regulation authority can provide the respective license already tomorrow. If the German side comes up with the license, Russia could start launching 17.5 billion cubic meters.

"The pipe is already filled with the gas. If the German regulator provides the license for supplies, the supply of 17.5 billion cubic meters starts the day after tomorrow", he said.

Earlier, Yuriy Vitrenko, the Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine Yuriy Vitrenko claimed that Nord Stream 2 cannot be certified since it contradicts the European legal framework. "Our main position is that Nord Stream 2 cannot be certified because it does not fully comply with European legislation," he said. In addition, Vitrenko noted that the certification of the Nord Stream 2 operator will harm competition in the German market, and will harm competition in the European market, in particular, in the markets of Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Austria.
