Russian authorities reported about the cessation of the cooperation with NATO on military and civil lines. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Grushko, as Vidomosti reports.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs stated, “The Atlantic Alliance has gone too far in confrontation with Russia”.
“NATO refused from the positive direction of the relationship with Russia. It just does not exist. Yet, until there are no hints that NATO knows how to solve this issue…NATO has gone too far in inciting confrontation with Russia. It is unclear where and when common sense will rule again. The paradox is that today’s relationship between Russia and NATO reminds greatly the ‘common’ state of affairs, when NATO was founded, during the cold war,” Grushko said.
According to the Minister, the current crisis in Russia-NATO relations is the longest ever. At the same time, Grushko assured that the military conflict is not foreseen, as it would be the disaster for the entire society.
Earlier, the Cold War-time communication process between NATO and Moscow was better than it is now. Curtis Scaparotti, the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) of NATO Allied Command Operations said.
He admitted that since he took office in 2016, he twice met with Valeriy Gerasimov, Chief of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, and called him on the phone several times.
