Andrey Babko has been appointed as Russia's Trade Representative to Ukraine. He held the post of Russian trade representative in Armenia since 2013. The corresponding decree of the Government of the Russian Federation is published on the official portal of legal information.
It should be noted that the position of Russia’s Permanent Trade Representative in Ukraine has been vacant since February 2012, when the previous representative Sergey Ivanov retired. Since then, the duties of Trade Representative have been performed by Sergey Solomin.
As we reported earlier, according to Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, the Kremlin is ready to exchange ambassadors with Ukraine. Rossiyskaya Gazeta reported that on February 10.
"It seems someone mentioned Zelensky's possible decision to return the ambassadors. We do not mind," Lavrov said.
However, Ukraine has no plans to appoint an ambassador to Russia in the near future.
"It is not planned to fill the vacant position of the head of Ukraine’s diplomatic office in the Russian Federation at the moment," the statement said.
