Putin facilitates issuance of Russian citizenship to Donbas residents

President of Russia Vladimir Putin distributed the effect of the order on facilitated issuance of Russian citizenship on all the residents of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as the document published on the official web-portal of legal information reads.

In late April, Putin signed a decree on the facilitated process of receiving Russian citizenship on the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. The words about “separated districts” were excluded from the new decree.

About 20,000 citizens of occupied Donbas filed the applications for the obtaining of Russian citizenship as of July 10.

On June 14, it was reported that the citizens of occupied Donbas began to get the passports of the Russian Federation registered in the simplified order in accordance with the April order of the Russian president.

Foreign Ministry of Ukraine condemned such measures stating about the intention to continue work on the imposition of proper sanctions against Russia.

Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli stated that the EU leaders would discuss the issuance of the Russian passports to the citizens of occupied Donbas soon.
