Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Ukraine would remain without gas if it does not prolong the contract on the transit of Russian gas. At the same time, he noted that Ukraine receives gas twice expansive as it could receive. Vladimir Putin stated this at the press conference after the visit to Beijing.
The Russian president reminded that representatives of the Ukrainian opposition Viktor Medvedchuk and Yuriy Boyko held talks on the transition to direct gas supplies from the Russian Federation to Ukraine.
“When Mr. Medvedchuk and Yuriy Boyko arrived in Moscow, they met with Miller and the head of the Russian government, Medvedev. Well, the Russian side said: the gas prices will be cut at least 25% if they directly receive gas from Russia. 25%! You understand that over the years tariffs for heat and electricity in the country have been rising in my opinion, up to 1000%. The real standard of living is falling, and falling catastrophically, but how can you ignore this anyway?" Putin said.
According to the Russian President, if there is no transit of gas, then there will be no reverse supplies. "The reverse is a virtual one, and how has our gas, which goes to Western Europe, been constructed from a Soviet-era gas pipeline? There is a branch from the transit gas pipe to the whole of Ukraine. The professionals know it perfectly well,” the Russian leader outlined.
“Imagine that there is no transit, and then there will be no gas supply to Ukraine. This is such a serious issue, and they are fooling around, and engaging themselves in some kind of political quarrel, instead of thinking about an ordinary citizen of Ukraine, who lives by current concerns and is forced to pay a bigger price for these political tricks", the President of the Russian Federation added.
Earlier, Russia’s Gazprom is ready to hold direct negotiations on the concluding of a new contract for the Russian gas supply to the Ukrainian market. Alexey Miller, the Head of the company made such statement during the meeting with the Delegation of Political Party Opposition platform – For life headed by Viktor Medvedchuk, the chairman of political council and Yuriy Boyko, the founder of the party and presidential candidate and Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.
