President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin intends to strengthen his country's navy with hypersonic weapons, which have no analogs in the world. He stated this at the main naval parade in St. Petersburg, Interfax reports.
"The unique advantages and increased combat capabilities of the fleet will be achieved through the widespread introduction of advanced digital technologies, such as the hypersonic strike systems, analogs of which cannot be found anywhere in the world, unmanned submarines, and through the most effective means of defense," Putin said.
This involves Tsirkon hypersonic naval missile the test of which is now being conducted by Russia's Defense Ministry.
As we reported earlier, 30 Russian warships took part in the drills conducted in the waters of the Barents Sea. The convoy of vessels, including a number of submarines and support ships, departed from Severomorsk on July 7.
The contingent was headed by cruisers Pyotr Velikiy and Marshal Ustinov. Russian Navy's Rear Admiral Aleksandr Moiseev claimed it had been that year's largest drill for the Northern Fleet.
