Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia claimed that if there was no Crimea issue then there would be other reasons for the sanctions against Russia. He claimed this answering the questions of the Russians during the live call-in show.
The Russian president also noted that there is nothing astonishing in the sanctions.
‘The history of Russia shows that we used to live under the sanctions from the moment Russia began to become independent and feel the strength when the partners saw the serious rival in Russia they started to introduce the sanctions under some pretexts. It took place during the whole history of Russia and I am not even talking about the Soviet Union time but it also existed before the October Revolution. So, there is nothing astonishing’.
Putin also added that he does not understand the decision of US Senate to expand the sanctions because according to Putin, ‘nothing extraordinary occurs’.
The US Senate approved the decree of the Opposition against Russian Influence on Europe and Eurasia from 2017 on June 14. This decree expands the sanctions against Russia due to the range of the crimes, including the invasion of the Ukrainian territory integrity, aggression in Syria and intervention into US election.
