The Federation Council of Russia announced the scheduling of the presidential election for March 18, 2018, which is the day of the annexation of Crimea. The decision was made during the session of the Council.
All 160 members of the Russian Federation Council voted in favor of the decision. Previously the election was scheduled for the beginning of March, but it was postponed to March 18.
According to Meduza, the order on the decision will come into force on Dec. 18th – precisely three months before the election. This is when the electoral campaign officially starts.
