Nuclear reactor explodes in White Sea: Five people die

The leadership of Russian nuclear center which deals with the development of nuclear weapons shared the details of the explosion near Arkhangelsk: the tragedy happened not on the coastal part of the testing ground, as Defence Ministry reported earlier, but in the White Sea. Five workers of Rosatom died in an explosion of a nuclear reactor, as Director of All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics Valentin Kostyukov and Research Advisor of the center Vyacheslav Solovyov said, Fontanka.ru reported.

“The scientists died in the explosion of a portable nuclear reactor which is a part of the engine of the object for military purpose,” the experts on nuclear weapon said.

According to Kostyukov, five scientists died, three are in critical condition, their lives are out of danger.

The Director of the nuclear center said that the tragedy took place not on the coastal part of the testing ground, but in the White Sea. Preparations for the testing of new weapons lasted for over a year.

Science director of the center Vyacheslav Solovyov specified that research and developments are being conducted within the scientific program of Sarovsky nuclear center.

On August 10, it was reported that five people died in the explosion on a military testing ground in Arkhangelsk.
