Russia blames Denmark for what it calls the deliberate dragging of time when it comes to issuing permissions construction of Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Izvestiya, the Russian newspaper released the respective article, referring to the 'sources in the diplomatic circles'.

According to the outlet, the Danish government is afraid of spoiling the relations with the U.S., which now pays efforts to remove the Russian gas from the European market.

'Denmark's main worries are that it could disappoint the major ally, Washington, which has been twisting the arms of its partners in order to remove the Russian gas from the European marker and fill it with its own liquefied natural gas (LNG). At the same time, Copenhagen does not want to spoil the relations with Berlin, which stands for construction of the Nord Stream II as a commercial project.

'This is a tough spot that Denmark stays on', the outlet quotes its sources, which is never revealed.

The Danish government replied, telling the Russian newspaper that the issue is now being considered. 'In order to make the decision, Denmark needs to assess the consequences for the environment, as well as whether the project meets the national interests in the foreign policy and defense area', the authority said.
