Nord Stream 2: 300 km of pipeline built

A total of 300 km of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline have already been built, Russian gas giant Gazprom said after a management board review, Interfax Ukraine reported.

Laying of both lines of the pipeline in the coastal zone of Germany has been completed, and work is being done in the territorial waters and exclusive economic zone of Germany, as well as the exclusive economic zone of Finland.

Preparatory procedures are underway for laying the Russian section of the pipeline.

Nord Stream 2 will have the capacity to transport 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Russia to Germany along the bottom of the Baltic Sea.

The Nord Stream-2 is the project on building a second transit gas pipeline from Russia to Germany in the Baltic Sea. Barack Obama’s administration was against the project. The construction works are to begin in 2018. The project foresees further broadening and modernization of the Nord Stream pipeline. By promoting the Nord Stream-2, Russia aims to refuse from the transit of its gas supplies through the Ukrainian territory.
