Natural gas transported by the Russian Federation is the world's "dirtiest" fuel. This is one of the reasons why U.S. Department of Energy considers consutruction of Nord Stream II dangerous. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm said so during her speech, when attending the hearing of the committee of the US Congress.

The official opposed the construction of Nord Stream 2 pipeline. "We definitely stand against this pipeline. And on the behalf of the Department of Energy, I'm saying that one of the reasons - apart from these related to Russia - why I consider this pipeline very dangerous lies within the fact that the dirtiest form of natural gas on Earth", she said.

On May 21, the United States announced sanctions against some companies and a number of vessels involved in the construction of the pipeline. But Nord Stream 2 AG was not blacklisted. A few days ago, the administration of US President Joe Biden imposed and immediately suspended sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 AG and its CEO Matthias Warnig. Washington explained its position by "national interests."
