Military drills kick off in Russia's southern districts, occupied Crimea

The Russian Federation commenced large-scale military training in the firing ranges in southern regions, as well as in the occupied Crimea, Abkhazia and Southern Ossetia. Russia's Defense Ministry reported that on August 9.

"Specialists from all branches of the military will carry out training and combat missions in the framworks of bilateral battalion tactical driss of motorized, tank and artillery units of Southern Military District", reads the message.

The exercises will be held on 20 firing ranges in Astrakhan and Rostov regions, in Kuban district, in the republics of Abkhazia, Adygeya, Dagestan, North and South Ossetia, Chechnya, and the occupied Crimea; they will be running from August 9 till September 15.

The drills will involve ground units, combat aviation and naval vessels of the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian flotilla. More than 80 planes and helicopters will be hovering in the skies every day.
