Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel accused Russian side of violating the terms of Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) which led to the termination of the treaty, as she said at the press conference with President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda, the press office of the Federal Government reported.

Merkel noted that termination of the INF Treaty led to the disruption of weapons restrictions in the whole world, including in Europe. Therefore, Merkel noted that soon Germany and its partners will solve the issue on new arms limitations and stressed that NATO will react to this.

“Germany is a part of NATO, so it will behave as NATO partner,” Chancellor said.

While discussing the question of Lithuania’s defence, Merkel did not respond whether Germany was ready to protect Lithuania’s freedom in case of a conflict. Answering the question about the possible military presence in Lithuania with the use of aircraft, Merkel stated that this issue is being decided within the NATO program on control of the airspace of Baltic states.
