The Russian police initiated the criminal proceeding into the incident that took place in Saint Petersburg on Tuesday, as Russia marked the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution. Interfax news agency reported this on November 8.

A police source told the news agency that a man ‘spilled red paint over the monument of Lenin, writing ‘Executioner’ on its chest. He also put leaflets with Lenin’s quotes on the trees nearby’.    

The monument is currently cleared of the paint; the police are searching for the suspect who fled the scene.
