Journalists of Russian First Channel were obliged to monitor the situation in regions and report it to the Kremlin. It is reported by Dozhd, referring to the information provided by former and current employees of the channel.

It is reported that the regional correspondents of First Channel every week should compile a list of the topics most discussed in the region. These reports are sent to Vladimir Putin's administration.

How long this practice already exists, journalists do not know. According to them, they compile reports from the time of their employment on the channel a few years ago, but their predecessors did the same before.

Dozhd quotes the words of one of his interlocutors, who told that the correspondents of the First Channel describe in as much detail as possible, the phenomenons of public opinion: they cite eavesdropping conversations, mention rumors, copy comments from news sites, retell assessments of familiar police officers and the FSB - or publish whole trends from local forums.
