Isolated cases of a new AY.4.2 Delta strain coronavirus variety were found in Russia. Head of the scientific group for the development of new methods for diagnosing human diseases of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor Kamil Hafizov stated that, according to Interfax.
"Yes, coronavirus AY.4.2 Delta straine variant is already being detected in isolated cases in Russia, as follows from the results of sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus genomes deposited in the VGARus database," Hafizov said.
The expert believes that this version of the Delta strain has the potential for further spread in Russia and around the world.
"The probability of its wide spread in Russia and in the world is high enough. The frequency of this line is increasing, but experts do not believe that it is responsible for the storage of a large number of daily cases of coronavirus infection in different countries," Hafizov said.
The first case of infection with a new Delta Plus coronavirus strain was found in Russia in June.
