Greece summons Russian Ambassador due to exilement of 13 Greek diplomats

Greece’s Foreign Ministry summoned Andrey Maslov, the Russian Ambassador, after Russia had decided to expel 13 Greek diplomats, as Ekathimerini reports.

It is noted that he was announced about a demarche because of Russia’s actions against Greece.

“Greece's Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian Ambassador to the country, Andrey Maslov, to protest Moscow's decision on Monday to expel Greek diplomats in retaliation to a similar move by Athens,” the news agency reports.

It should be noted that Moscow did not name the expelled Greek diplomats and did not say when they were asked to leave the country.

Yesterday, on August 6, Andreas Friganas, Greece Ambassador in Russia was called to the MFA of the Russian Federation to be informed about retaliatory measures in response to the expelling of the Russian diplomats by Athens. 

Reportedly, the Greece government sent off two Russian diplomats and banned the entrance for another two officials due to the threat of the National Security. Russians are blamed with attempts to meddle with Greece's internal affairs and the illegal activity, which undermines the basics of the national security.
