Greek Foreign Ministry accused Russia of interference in the internal affairs after the comment of the Russian establishment on renaming of Macedonia, as the website of the Greek Foreign Ministry reported.
“We expect Russian Foreign Ministry to refrain from such statements in the future, as they are considered as interference in Greece’s internal affairs,” the message says.
Russian Foreign Ministry condemned renaming of Macedonia and urged to consider this issue at the UN Security Council. The Greek establishment informed that Moscow’s comment “is not compatible with the level of friendly relationships between the countries”.
“Russia’s statement on the political development of the internal affairs in friendly countries do not comply with the level of the relationships between Greece and Russia,” the statement says.
The representatives of the establishment noted that Russia’s comment ignores the Greek diplomatic institutions and is considered as an interference in the internal affairs of the state.
Besides, Athens faulted Russia for recognizing the former Yugoslav Republic as “Republic of Macedonia” being aware of the sensitivity of the Greek nation in this regard.
Earlier, on January 11 the Macedonian Parliament approved amendments to the constitution which provides for renaming of the Republic of Macedonia to the Republic of North Macedonia.
