Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry decisively protests against the decision of the Moscow city court to extend pre-trial detention for Roman Sushchenko, the Ukrainian reporter detained in Russia recently.
‘The Ministry protests against the decision to decline citizen Sushchenko’s appeal and the decision to hold him in detention,’ reads the statement released by the Ministry.
The Ukrainian authority said it was outraged because the Russian side didn’t let Ukrainian consul in the session hall. ‘This is another proof of biasedness of the Russian court. The Ukrainian reporter is illegally and groundlessly held in Russia, while the charges of espionage are politically motivated and point at lack of justice in Russia and the right for the just court,’ the message said.
The Ministry demands that Russia release Roman Sushchenko and other Ukrainian citizens ‘who became the hostages of Russia’s aggressive policy’.
