Yulia Bohdanova, the director general of the company that owns the shopping mall in Kemerovo where the fire took place was detained due to the neglect of the problems with the fire safety in the mall. The press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia reported this.
‘During the investigation, it was established that Bohdanova, as the responsible for the observance of the fire safety, was informed of the deficiencies of the fire safety system of the building by her subordinates. However, Bohdanova was entirely involved only in the renting of new commercial areas and did not assume any measures to eliminate the deficiencies of the fire safety system’, the message said.
It is noted that the investigators searched the home of Bohdanova. In the short term, she will be charged with the commitment of the crime, the violation of the fire safety requirements that led to the death of two or more persons.
Later Russia’s Investigative Committee reported on the detention of Tanzilia Komkova, the Head of Inspection of State Building Control of Kemerovo region due to the fire at the shopping mall.
The criminal proceeding against Komkova was opened due to the abuse of official authority. According to the investigation, the head of inspection did no assume any measures to prevent the exploitation of the unauthorizedly erected building of the shopping mall instead of the confectionary factory. The investigation will apply for her arrest.
‘The investigation will also check the actions of Komkova for the corruption’, the committee specified.
As it was reported earlier, the shopping mall caught fire in the Russian city of Kemerovo on March 25. According to the Emergency Service, the fire occurred on the fourth floor where the cinema and children’s playgrounds were situated. The Investigative Committee of Russia considers two version of the tragedy: short circuit or use of the open fire.
