The Russian Federation has begun conscription of Crimean citizens into its armed forces. The European Union has condemned this and has called on Russia to put an end to illegal actions that violate international law. This was stated by an EU’s spokesman.
“The Russian Federation is carrying out conscription in the illegally-annexed Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol to draft residents of the peninsula in the Russian Federation Armed Forces,” he stated.
It was also stated that the EU did not and would not recognize the illegal annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
"The European Union is unwavering in its support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders," the statement reads.
As we reported earlier, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Serhiy Kyslytsia expressed his firm conviction that Russia would not manage to evade responsibility for the MH17 crash.
"This fact, by the way, was clearly underscored today by Belgium speaking on behalf of other Joint Investigation Team members – the Netherlands, Australia, Malaysia and Ukraine – and other Security Council members," Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN added.
