Canada’s MFA informed that Kremlin’s decision to facilitate the process of issuance of the Russian passports for the resident of the occupied territories of Donbas undermines the situation in the region.
“Canada condemns Russia-supported violence in the east of Ukraine and destabilizing offer to give Russian citizenship to the residents of Donbas,” Canada’s MFA reported on Twitter.
The diplomatic establishment reaffirmed Canada’s support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
As it was reproted, Ukraine’s statement to the UN Security Council concerning the facilitated procedure of issuance of the Russian passports to the residents of ORDLO (the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, - ed.) will be spread as an official document.
Earlier, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin signed a decree which facilitates the procedure of obtaining Russian citizenship for the residents of the occupied regions of Donetsk and Luhansk (ORDLO).
As it was reported, Russia wanted to facilitate the process of obtaining Russian citizenship for the residents of the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics after presidential elections in Ukraine. Putin’s decree was required for that.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Temporarily Occupied Territories and IDPs reported that people who get Russian passports will lose their Ukrainian citizenship.
